Gamma Chi Chapter UpdateDecember 8, 2007 The Delta Sigma Phi, Gamma Chi chapter alumni board recently made the difficult decision to remove all undergraduate brothers from the chapter house. This took place on Tuesday, December 4th, with the assistance of the University. Undergraduates were given several days to move belongings out of the house, and the University has provided housing in the dorms for any brothers needing a place to stay. This was done in response to an alarming number of recent incidents reported to University security and/or city police involving chapter members, including an incident the preceding weekend while the chapter was on temporary suspension by the University. The decision to remove the members from the house was made in the interest of their health and safety. The status of our chapter as an institution did not change this week. We are still recognized by the University, and the status of our charter from our national organization remains unchanged. The chapter alumni board has taken responsibility for both the charter and the chapter house. The undergraduates are abiding by the temporary suspension imposed by the University, while the alumni board, University, and national organization each investigate the recent incidents in question. All three organizations are collaborating on options for the future of the chapter. The alumni board is committed to resuming normal chapter operations as quickly as possible at our historic chapter house at 214 North 34th Street. We will be sharing updates on the chapter status with our alumni and the campus community as soon as possible. |
